Fife pub announces closures until region returns to Level 2

Betty Nicols, a pub in Kirkcaldy has announced that it will close its doors in reaction to news that the region will enter Level 3 of the Scottish Government’s lockdown system.

Pubs in Level 3 areas are not allowed to sell alcohol indoors.

Fife had previously been in Level 2 before this afternoon’s review.

Writing on Facebook, the pub said: “The Scottish Government has just announced from this Friday 13/11/20, Fife will be moving up from level 2, to level 3 of Covid restrictions.

“This means we will be unable to sell alcohol indoors. Given this, we will be closed after Friday 13/11/20 until level 3 restrictions are lifted and Fife goes back down to level 2.

“We are still taking bookings and will continue to trade at level 2 until then. Booking is strongly advised meantime.”

What’s the use of tiered system if she keeps places like Edinburgh & Glasgow the same?

‘The time to act is now’: Fife Council leaders react to Level 3 announcement

Councillors David Alexander and David Ross, Co-Leaders of Fife Council, said: “Unfortunately the decision has been taken to place Fife in tier 3.

“It’s not what we were hoping for, but this decision has been taken based on the facts.

“The number of cases in Fife is increasing, and we have to make sure that we all work together to prevent this situation becoming any worse for Fifers. The time to act is now.

“We’re urging everyone to follow the public health guidance to help reduce the spread of the virus and reduce the need for any further restrictions.

“And remember, if you need support, help is available. There’s more information for individuals and businesses on www.fife.gov.uk/coronavirus and if you, or someone you know is not online, call the Fife Covid Community Helpline on 0800 952 0330.

“We’re open 24/7 to help and support people through emergencies too.”

NHS Fife statement on new lockdown level

NHS Fife’s Chair, Tricia Marwick said: “Our Public Health team have been closely monitoring the data for Fife and we have seen a sustained increase in the number of positive cases of Coronavirus across the Kingdom.

“It is therefore vital that we now act quickly and decisively to suppress the transmission rate of the virus across Fife, to save lives and protect frontline services.

“Following advice from Fife’s Director of Public Health and discussions with Fife council leaders, the National Scottish Incident Management Team (IMT) made a recommendation to the Scottish government to move Fife to level 3.

“This move from level 2 to 3 is a stark warning to us all. I am therefore asking all Fifers to adhere to the level 3 measures to help drive down the transmission rate and avoid any further restrictions being placed on our communities.”
