The Great British Bake Off fans were left astounded after Peter made a controversial confession in last night’s episode.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith cranked up the pressure on the remaining contestants with three tricky challenges for dessert week.

The five bakers had to create a miniature version of a classic cheesecake for the signature, followed by a technical that dates back to the 17th century and a show-stopping jelly art dessert cake featuring delicate sponge.

But as Peter, who made it into the semi-final, was preparing for the cheesecake signature, he made a shocking admission that not everyone could get on board with.

Explaining his lime and ginger cheesecake, the 20-year-old revealed: “You can’t trust a cheesecake, I have an aversion to cheese in general.”

Fans were stunned by his comments, with many taking to Twitter to share their anguish.

One said: “I’ve lost all respect for Peter for that cheese comment, so now Mark is my favourite.”

Jack tweeted: “Peter was one of my favourite bakers, but now he’s said he has ‘an aversion to cheese’ I consider him a sworn enemy.”

Joseph also said: “Peter on The Great British Bake Off just broke my heart, he doesn’t like cheese!”

Hannah tweeted: “I’ve been rooting for Peter since day 1 but ‘I have an aversion to cheese’? You couldn’t have thrown a bigger spanner into the works hun. You’re on thin ice now.”

Laura wrote: “‘I have an aversion to cheese.’ Oh Peter. And you were doing so well…”

And a sixth said: “Peter isn’t perfect after all. He doesn’t like cheese.”
