Manchester United’s January transfer window plans

Manchester United fans are taking stock of the season so far as players join their national teams for the two-week international break.

Inconsistency has been the theme of the season – stunning victories over Paris-Saint Germain and RB Leipzig have been eclipsed by dire defeats to Tottenham and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Question marks have been raised about the defence, the make-up of the midfield, and the disappointing form of some players. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself has also come under increased pressure, but Saturday’s excellent question has eased that somewhat.

Supporters are now looking ahead at how the rest of the season might pan out with the current squad, and what United might do in the January transfer window.

Will Fish pulls off amazing hat-trick of tackles in training

Manchester United fans have been left seriously impressed by young defender Will Fish after he pulled off a remarkable hat-trick of tackles in a recent training match.

Fish has risen through the United youth ranks after captaining the Under-16s and, despite being just 17-years-old, is already a key member of Neil Wood’s Under-23s side – captaining them on occasion too.

The strong and tall centre-back is enjoying a solid season, having already played eight games including the 6-0 victory over League Two’s Salford City in the EFL Trophy.

Fish has really grabbed fans’ attention this week, however, after a startling piece of play in training in which he pulled off three tackles in quick succession to deny a certain goal.

Here’s how he did it.

United injury latest

The games have been coming thick and fast for Manchester United this season and, as a result, so have the injuries.

Due the disruption caused to the football calendar by coronavirus, the season is being crammed into a much smaller timeframe than usual which is leading to an increased amount of injuries for every team in the Premier League.

United have been particularly badly hit as Luke Shaw joined the seemingly ever-growing injury list on Saturday, causing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to lambaste the fixture schedule.

While some players face a spell on the sidelines, others have just suffered knocks and should hopefully be in action when United return after the international break.

Here is the latest on United’s injured stars and their expected return dates…

Berbatov: United players believe in Solskjaer

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s players are fighting for their manager, after the display at Everton.

This is what he said in his Betfair column:

“It’s like United need to be under pressure to produce a winning performance. But there’s only so long you can operate like that – they won’t produce the win every time the pressure is piled on. In the end, it isn’t going to finish well if they continue being so inconsistent. The team needs to find consistency and produce good football game after game.

“I still think the players believe in Solskjaer and they like him. I think he has their trust and they have his. There’s something that just isn’t working right in games when they are losing. The problem for me is, sometimes when they don’t have the ball they have a lack of mobility to chase and get the ball back.

“Overall, though, I believe they’re still playing for the manager and they all like each other. But sometimes that’s not enough and to be 14th in the table isn’t good for United. I hope in their next game – against West Brom in the Premier League – we won’t see another dip in form. If that happens then we’ll be talking about the same thing again.”
