It comes as the number of patients with Covid-19 in hospitals in Wales is higher than ever before, including during the peak of the pandemic.
Latest figures show 1,529 beds are occupied with suspected, confirmed or recovering coronavirus patients – 20% of all patients in hospital. They include 983 beds occupied with Covid-19 patients who have been confirmed to be currently battling the disease.
However, the number of patients in critical care or on ventilators with coronavirus has only reached 40% of the levels at the height of the first wave.
On Thursday, the UK recorded its highest daily number of coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.
Another 33,470 lab-confirmed cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the 24 hours before 9am on Thursday, according to the latest Government figures.
A further 563 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus.
In Wales alone, 867 more people were diagnosed with Covid-19 following a lab test. NHS Wales confirmed that 34 more people had lost their lives with the virus to take the country’s death toll to 2,142.
Wales as a whole now averages 175.6 cases of the virus per 100,000 people.
