Kylie Minogue has become the first female to achieve Number 1 on UK Album Chart in five consecutive decades after her new album DISCO skyrocketed to the top of the chart.

The singer, 52, has now had a number one in every decade since the 1980s when she ditched her career in Aussie soap Neighbours and launched a pop music career.

Her new release, which raced ahead of Little Mix’s Confetti to the top spot, comes as the UK sees the biggest opening week of 2020 in the UK, with 55,000 chart sales being made.

It’s also Kylie’s biggest opening week for an album since 2010 when she released Aphrodite.

What’s more she has now also racked up more UK Number 1 albums than music legends Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard and George Michael – with what is her eighth album release.

In a statement, Kylie said of her new number one: “Official Charts Company, thank you so much! DISCO has entered the charts at Number 1!

“I don’t know what to say, I’m lost for words, thank you to everyone who has supported this album and this campaign, it means the world to me. I’m so touched that it’s made it’s way to your hearts. I love it!”

Originally famous for her role as Charlene in Neighbours, Kylie then went on to be a successful pop star – now she’s a national treasure in the UK despite actually being from Australia.

Earlier this week Kylie reunited with Lenny Kravitz for a Children in Need single.

The pair – who were together briefly in 1991 after Kylie split from Michael Hutchence – have teamed up to record a charity cover of Oasis’ Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

They make up part of Radio 2’s star-studded All Stars lineup, with also includes Cher, Robbie Williams and Chic’s Nile Rogers.

Kylie – now loved up with Welsh boyfriend Paul Solomons – said taking part in the collaboration was a “privilege”, while Lenny – understood to be single – described it as a “pleasure”.

The track also sees Bryan Adams reunite with Mel C more than 20 years after their 1998 duet, When You’re Gone.

“Let’s all help make it into a big smash record to help the kids,” said Bryan.

Cher, who recorded her section in Malibu, said: “I felt very emotional recording this song, it was very important to me.”
