Max George has become the third celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2020 after a shock dance-off with Maisie Smith.

Viewers were stunned when the pair, who have both been tipped to win the Glitterball trophy, ended up in the bottom two .

After the result was leaked online on Sunday fans of the dance show said they weren’t surprised that The Wanted singer Max, from Salford, had left the dancefloor after he was caught swearing when they finished their dance on Saturday night.

Fans of the BBC dance show clocked him cheering “f****** get in” as he triumphantly ended the American Smooth to It Had To Be You with Dianne Buswell.

“Think it’s a disgrace these celebs swearing on TV,” blasted one Twitter user.

“Swearing is not acceptable!” said another in response to the news of his exit.

Host Claudia Winkleman apologised to viewers at home for the bad language.

She said: “I also just want to quickly apologise for some language earlier that involved Max.

“I don’t know the details, I don’t know if you heard.

“If you did we’re deeply sorry. Even if you didn’t hear we’re sorry.”

Max, 32, addressed the moment in an Instagram video after the live show.

“Apologies by the way if I let out a bad word – it was just in the moment.

“I do apologise, I really hope I didn’t offend anyone.

“I hope the dance didn’t offend anyone either, so if you liked us please vote for us!” he said.

The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

Both couples performed their routines again.

Max and his partner Dianne performed the American Smooth and Maisie and her partner Gorka Márquez performed the Cha Cha to Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper, in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

Craig Revel Horwood and guest judge Anton Du Beke chose to save Maisie and Gorka but Shirley Ballas wanted to save Max and Dianne.

When asked by Tess about his time on the show, Max said: “I’ve loved it. It’s all down to Dianne, she’s been literally amazing.

“For me to get through 90 seconds of a dance for four weeks now is a credit to her, she’s just unbelievable. “I’ve got to say, all these guys over here are the nicest group of people ever. I love you all!”

Dianne said: “I think Max has done an absolutely amazing job.

“He has done four incredible dances and I know how nervous you get, but you’ve come out here very week. “I know you always say you want to do me proud and oh my goodness you’ve done me more than proud – so well done.

“I also want to say thank you to the judges, Anton you were incredible tonight. Thank you so much.”

The remaining couples will take to the dancefloor next week, when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday November 21 at 7.15pm with the results show on Sunday at 7.25pm on BBC One.

Max and Dianne will be joining Zoe Ball for their first televised interview live on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on Monday November at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
