EAMONN Holmes and Ruth Langsford might be getting axed from This Morning – but eagle-eyed viewers spotted their mugs are still on the set.
The pair are being replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary – with The Sun first revealing in September that the couple feared being chopped.
Ruth and Eamonn, who are said to be “furious and upset”, have been on the show for 14 years.
But fans today pointed out a reference to them on the set – even if hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield didn’t mention the story.
Mugs with the letters ‘E’ and ‘R’ were spotted sitting prominently on a shelf at the start of the show.
One viewer laughed: “Who @thismorning decided not to change eamonn and Ruth’s mugs?”
Speaking before news broke that he was being replaced, Eamonn explained that trolls had campaigned to have him sacked from This Morning.
Talking to fans in a Facebook chat with Belfast Live he said: “People say it’s water off a duck’s back but people wake up and they know they can get you sacked… that’s the thing about live TV. It can be very stressful.”
A TV insider previously told The Sun that Eamonn feared he was “too pale, stale and male” to remain a regular face on This Morning for much longer.
They explained: “Eamonn and Ruth are incredibly popular with viewers and loved across the board.
“No one wants to see them go. The shows execs have some very tricky decisions.
“Eamonn fears he is basically too ‘pale, stale and male’, and, at 60, perhaps not in line with the youth drive broadcasters are after.”
Alison, 45, and Dermot, 47, previously impressed bosses when they hosted the show together over the summer, with producers keen to add more diversity to their line-up.
