The stars of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here were stunned after seeing their basic living quarters at Gwrych Castle in North Wales in Sunday’s launch show.

And Sir Mo Farah had a bumpy first night in the derelict castle after falling out of his hammock while he tried to blissfully sleep alongside the other nine campmates.

The Olympic runner, 37, flew out of the rickety hammock in the middle of the night and smacked the ground with a ‘whack’, waking up his co-star Shane Richie.

But instead of trying to climb back into his wobbly bed, he just decided to curl up and sleep on the hard, cold floor underneath the hammock.

Mo said on Monday morning: ‘Sleeping in the hammock was a bit different, at some point in the night I must have fallen from it and just hit the ground and went “oh well”.’

Speaking about being woken up by Mo’s fall, Shane said: ‘In the middle of the night it was all quiet and all of sudden a “whack”, I looked around and Mo wasn’t in his hammock, he was underneath it.’

The Eastenders actor, 56, quickly told presenter Vernon Kay, 46, about the hilarious mishap when chatting in the courtyard the following morning.

Mo quickly joined the pair and had a good laugh at his expense, while Beverley Callard, 63, insisted that she had slept quite well on their first night.

But Mo is not the first celebrity to have fallen out of one of the rickety hammocks, as Shane also fell on the floor while trying one out on Sunday’s launch show.

He joked that he would be ‘doubling up’ with Mo as he immediately fell out of the hammock after trying to climb in, much to the amusement of the runner and radio host Jordan North, 30.

It comes soon after it was revealed by The Sun that Mowill reportedly be given special halal meals during his stint at the castle.

The Olympian champion, 37, will reportedly not eat the same food that is given to the other campmates to keep in line with his Muslim faith.

A source told The Sun: ‘Mo told producers a long time ago about his food preferences, so they were prepared.

‘He can’t eat certain food unless it’s prepared in the correct way according to his religion.’

But he will still be taking part in the series’ famous Bushtucker eating trials, as they do not interfere with his religious beliefs.

The Quran and other Muslim teachings do not outlaw the eating of creepie crawlies – only explicitly banning eating scorpions, among other dietary requirements.

MailOnline previously contacted representatives for I’m A Celebrity and Mo Farah for comment.

And speaking to MailOnline ahead of this year’s series, Mo said that while he had some doubts about the show, he wanted to take on the challenge as it’s ‘something different’ from his sport success.

The runner told MailOnline that he’s ‘scared of everything’ going into the show, so is worried he could be viewers’ top choice for the Trials.

He added: ‘I think I’m nervous about being on camera 24/7, whatever you’re doing, taking a shower that’s the nerve-racking part!’

‘You’re always expecting it’s gonna be incredible and then you just go in and it’s less than your expectations.

‘I just want to get myself in there and then I’ll see someone I recognise. That’s the exciting part.’

But despite his fear that he would be picked for trials, the long-distance runner has so far managed to avoid the wrath of the public vote as he sits snuggly in the camp.

Mo is among ten celebrities who have joined the first ever UK series of I’m A Celebrity this year, after coronavirus saw the show relocate to Wales from Australia.

And also competing for the title of King or Queen of the Castle are AJ Pritchard, 26;  Victoria Derbyshire, 52; Hollie Arnold, 26, and Jessica Plummer, 28.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are hosting the series once again, while Vick Hope is fronting The Daily Drop, a brand-new series following all camp activity, available on ITV Hub every morning after the main show.

The Geordie duo, the contestants and crew will be tested for COVID-19 every three days throughout the series, with the campmates able to mix freely while they live in the camp as they form their own bubble.

The 2020 series, which kicked off with a bang on ITV on Sunday evening, is expected to last just 20 days – two shorter than normal.
