Rishi Sunak urged to help drivers switch to electric cars – The Times

Rishi Sunak must do more to help drivers to switch to electric vehicles, green groups and industry bodies have said today, after it emerged that the government will prohibit new petrol and diesel car sales from 2030.

The ban received a broad welcome as being vital in setting Britain on track to meet its climate change promises.

The announcement comes with a promise of £1.3 billion for new charging points and almost £600 million in subsidies to help consumers to switch to electric vehicles.

However, more cash will be needed for infrastructure to support that and other cleaner industries at next week’s spending review if Boris Johnson’s promise of a green industrial revolution is to be delivered, campaign groups and industry bodies said today.
