The 2011 film Contagion now seems eerily prescient when it comes to depicting a modern pandemic, given its parallels to the current COVID-19 outbreak.

And the movie’s star Jude Law has addressed the similarities during an interview with GQ on Thursday.

‘There was absolutely the sense that this was going to happen,’ said the 47-year-old when discussing his most iconic roles.

Talking about the experts brought on to consult on the drama, Law said, ‘The great scientists on set with us who had worked with Scott [Z. Burns] the writer and [director] Steven Soderbergh were very learned and experienced individuals who knew what to expect.’

‘And they all said to us that this was going to happen — and it was a case of when rather than if,’ explained the Cold Mountain star.

‘The way they described it, which is exactly as it has happened, just made sense. What’s scary is you learn in a set like that because you’re being advised by experts, but it doesn’t necessarily sit.’

The Gattaca star continued, ‘When 2020 started, and we heard about what was initially happening in China, what fast became apparent around the world, it rang alarm bells.’

‘Unfortunately, I wasn’t hugely surprised.’

The 2011 movie, which co-starred Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon, focused on healthcare professionals, government officials and everyday people find themselves in the midst of a pandemic as the CDC works to find a cure.

Meanwhile, in the United States alone, the very real coronavirus has infected over 13million people and claimed more than a quarter of a million lives.
